Steady legal oversight at Acadia Healthcare William F. Grieco’s three decades of experience

William F. Grieco has built a multi-decade career at the intersection of law, corporate governance and healthcare, a background that now informs his work as a director of Acadia Healthcare. Appointed to Acadia’s board in November 2011, Grieco brings legal and compliance expertise to a company operating in the complex regulatory field of behavioral health services.

Grieco’s resume traces a steady progression through senior legal roles in healthcare and technology firms. From 1995 to 1999 he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Fresenius Medical Care North America, a major dialysis services and products provider. He later held the Senior Vice President and General Counsel position at IDX Systems Corporation from 2001 to 2002, followed by a similar role at American Science and Engineering, Inc., between 2003 and 2008. Prior to those appointments, Grieco was a partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart, where he developed his foundation in corporate law.

Since 2008 he has led Arcadia Strategies, LLC as Managing Director, offering legal and business consulting to companies in healthcare, science and technology. His advisory work complements board service responsibilities and positions him to advise on strategic, regulatory and compliance issues. In addition to his Acadia role, Grieco has served on a number of corporate boards; he was a long-standing member of the board of PHC, Inc., from February 1997 until November 2011, and has been on the board of Echo Therapeutics Inc. since February 2011.

Grieco also holds an executive compliance role as vice president and chief compliance officer at NX Development Corporation, the U.S. life sciences affiliate of SBI Holdings. That role underscores his focus on aligning organizational practices with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

A graduate of Boston College, Grieco combines legal training with years of industry experience, enabling a governance approach that emphasizes both risk management and strategic foresight. Observers say that directors with legal and compliance backgrounds are particularly valuable in healthcare, where regulatory changes and reimbursement pressures demand vigilant oversight.

As Acadia continues to expand its footprint in behavioral health, William F. Grieco’s mix of board experience, in-house counsel work and consulting provides the company with seasoned guidance on governance and regulatory matters critical to maintaining operational integrity and pursuing long-term growth.
