That deal generated the capital the trio needed to find Energy Transfer in 1996, starting with roughly 200 miles of East Texas natural gas pipelines.

From the outset, the partnership divided naturally. Davis, who would later purchase the Texas Rangers baseball team, concentrated on the business side of operations.
